The first thing we’ll say about Wolverine rain boots is that they’re manufactured by a company that’s been around for quite a while. They’re known in the industry for offering a wide range of durable products that aren’t too costly on the pocket. So, all the signs point towards something that should impress.
First Impressions – Durable & Robust
Unlike some other, flimsier brands, the Wolverine boots we unboxed were pleasingly robust and seemingly very durable. So, we’re not talking about a brand that’s just for looks. The feel of these boots in your hand speaks quality, as it’s clear to even the untrained eye that the materials are of a high standard.
With tough uppers crafted from leather and obviously hard-wearing outsoles, Wolverine rain boots provide a water-tight barrier that will keep your feet dry, even in the harshest of conditions. After putting them on, they fit nice and snug, with the internal Gore-Tex material also allowing your feet to breathe.
Tons of Grip & Stability
When you’re out on the trail, who knows what kind of terrain you’re going to come up against, so it’s nice to know that the boots you’re wearing are going to offer lots of grip and a stable feeling on all types of ground. These rain boots don’t disappoint, with a hefty sole that’s able to deal with even the most uneven of surfaces.
The soles of Wolverine rain boots have a distinctive, super-thick rubber construction that are specifically designed to be able to grab hold of all types of surface. We tried them out on some local muddy slopes and the traction we got was pretty amazing.
Amazingly Comfortable – Even On Long Walks
We tested these rain boots over a longer distance, namely a 5km hike over semi-uneven terrain and we can tell you that they remained comfortable throughout. No one wants the frustration of having to keep stopping because of sore feet and blisters, but with these boots, you don’t really have to worry.
Throughout this test the wearer’s feet remained:
- Warm, yet refreshed
- Dry and unaffected by the moist conditions
- Completely free of wear & tear i.e. no rubs or blisters to speak of
- Relaxed and supported
This means that Wolverine rain boots offer a level of comfort that’s absolutely worth paying a little more for – something you’ll realise when trying them out on a walk for yourself. The inner soles are firm yet giving and the construction of the footbed means you get optimum comfort, even when used over long distances.
Excellent Ankle Support
When you’re out in the wilderness, what you absolutely don’t want is to turn your ankle and then find yourself stuck off the beaten track. It’s easily done over rocky ground, but you’ll have no such worries with these boots, because of the excellent ankle support provided by a robustly constructed collar that greatly reduces excessive lateral movement.
This is perhaps where Wolverine boots performed best during our test.
Our Verdict – Well Worth the Money
The Wolverine Rain Boots that we tried definitely lived up to the reputation that the manufacturer has, as we found them to be among the most cost-effective and durable types we’ve seen. What you opt for is up to you, of course, but when you consider that it ticks every box relating to comfort, durability, stability and injury protection, it’s obviously going to get two big thumbs up!
Should you buy some? In our opinion, yes you should and it’s not something we say lightly. All the reasons we’ve listed simply show what a great product Wolverine boots are. They may not be the lightest or most aesthetically-pleasing product you’ll see on the market, but they perform where it counts.
