Everyone needs sunscreen when they go outside – it’s simply one of life’s certainties. Whether it’s cloudy, sunny or snowing outside, a good mineral sunscreen spray SPF 50 will provide broad spectrum protection against the sun’s UV rays all year round.
If you don’t include it in your daily routine, you open yourself up to skin damage and the signs of ageing, so it’s something of a no-brainer. However, you may have heard that mineral sunscreen is a little more tricky to apply. Spoiler alert: It is until you know how it’s done.
- Step #1 – Spray some of the sunscreen into your hand
The first thing you need to do when using mineral-based sunscreen spray SPF 50 is shake the bottle – especially if it has been sitting in a drawer or cupboard. That’s because mineral sunscreen has a tendency to separate when stood.
Shaking the bottle easy resolves it, so after you’ve done that, spray a small amount into your hand. When applying to the face, it’s essential that you apply it to your hand first, rather than spraying it directly onto your face.
- Step #2 – Be Sparing When Applying
This next part is important to remember, as otherwise, you might find that you overapply without realising. This is common for people who’re used to using chemical sunscreens, as it’s totally ok to apply liberally. This is not the case for mineral types.
Mineral brands are typically made from zinc oxide, which has a higher viscosity. This means that it doesn’t spread in the same way, so the most you should spray into your hand is a dime-sized amount of the product. Once it’s in your hand, apply your sunscreen spray SPF 50 in small dots around 1 centimetre apart before rubbing them in.
- Step #3 – Reapply Every Two Hours
As is the case with all sunscreens, mineral sprays need to be reapplied every 120 minutes or so to provide protection. This is non-negotiable and is even more important when you get wet, be it through sweating or swimming. Water can degrade the protection, so extra application is needed.
The truth is that sunscreen will never protect you from all of the sun’s rays, so it is advisable to remain in the shade when the sun is at its most intense. An SPF 50 will protect you from 98% of UV rays, but that still leaves 2%, so don’t stay out in the sun all day!
Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 Should Be In Everyone’s Inventory
While the type and strength of the sunscreen you use are entirely up to you, it’s worth saying that you need to have some kind of protection. Your skin is the body’s largest organ, so it needs to be kept healthy when you’re in direct sunlight.
If you are using a chemical sunscreen, be sure to add a 30-minute wait after application before you go out in the sun. It’s just that chemical sunscreens need to absorb into the skin, which takes time.
Whatever you choose to use in terms of sunscreen, be sure to use something. If it’s mineral-based, great. If not, it’s better than nothing.
Just stay safe while enjoying everything that outdoor life brings.
