When the Kellogg Company introduced the beloved pop tart in 1964, you could find four different flavors of pre-packaged pastries. Now, pop tarts are available in dozens of flavors–but there’s one thing a lot of pop tart lovers have forgotten.
While you can certainly enjoy a pop tart straight out of its shiny mylar package, these sweet treats are meant to be heated up for the optimal experience.
How do you make a pop tart so that it’s warm but not burnt? What different methods can you use to heat up a pop tart?
Read on to learn everything you need to know to enjoy your pop tart eating experience.
How to Make a Pop Tart in the Toaster
Whether you’re enjoying a classic pop tart or one of the weird pop tart flavors, using a toaster is the easiest way to prepare your snack.
First, set your toaster to its lowest setting. Unless you enjoy burned edges, you’ll want to make sure they don’t overheat.
Then, drop your pop tart into the toaster so that it’s standing up vertically. Allow it to toast for about one minute and hit the cancel button to stop the toasting process before your pop tart burns. You can remove it with tongs or your fingers and wait about 30 seconds before eating.
How to Make a Pop Tart in the Microwave
Do you want to warm your pop tart without toasting the outside edges? If you prefer a warm, gooey inside and a soft outside, use the microwave to prepare your pop tart.
Remove the pop tart from its packaging and put it on a microwave-safe plate or paper towel. Then, place the plate in the center of the microwave and set the timer for 3 to 5 seconds. Once again, wait about 30 seconds before eating.
How to Make a Pop Tart in the Toaster Oven
Do you prefer using your toaster oven over the toaster or microwave? You can pop your pop tart onto the middle rack of your toaster oven, icing side up, so that it heats evenly without burning. Make sure that your toaster oven is set to the “toaster” setting.
If you have a toaster oven that’s slow to heat up, set the timer for two to three minutes. If your toaster oven is quick to heat up, one minute may do the trick. Use tongs to remove your pop tart without touching the metal and wait 30 seconds before eating.
